The field is set for the Memorial Tournament, with two-time defending champion Scottie Scheffler teeing it up with 71 other golfers at the PGA Tour event played June 4-7 at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin.
The tournament, hosted by Jack Nicklaus, features nine of the top 10-ranked players in the world, including No. 1 Scheffler, No. 2 Rory McIlroy and No. 3 Cameron Young. Only No. 7 Collin Morikawa, nursing a sore back and awaiting the birth of his first child, is missing from the top 10.
Scheffler is seeking to become only the second player to win the Memorial three consecutive years. Tiger Woods turned the trick in 1999, 2000 and 2001. McIlroy is gunning for his first win at the event, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Nicklaus, who has mentored McIlroy, founded the tournament in 1976. Roger Maltbie won the first Memorial, and returns as an on-course commentator for Golf Channel.
The Memorial winner pockets $4 million and 700 FedEx points as part of the tournament’s signature status. The winner also receives the traditional handshake from Nicklaus just off the 18th green.
