Night bike ride in New Philadelphia
Ernie’s Bike Shop staff in New Philadelphia will lead its monthly night bike ride from 8 to 9:30 p.m. July 3, leaving from the Ernie’s shop at 1103 Fourth St. NW. State funding for road improvements
The Tuscarawas County Transportation Improvement District will receive $113,400 for Trenton Avenue and Jaycee Drive improvements.
The funding from the Ohio Department of Transportation will be used for preliminary engineering for full-depth repair of Trenton Avenue and Jaycee Drive in Uhrichsville. It is one of 24 statewide projects to provide access to developable land, create easier access to existing businesses, and alleviate traffic congestion around commercial areas. The projects are expected to support more than 32,500 jobs and more than $2 billion in private sector capital investments, according to Gov. Mike DeWine’s office.
Medicine Center Pharmacy marks 50 years
Medicine Center Pharmacy is a family-owned, independent pharmacy group serving the communities of Stark, Tuscarawas, and Columbiana counties since 1976. Each location will celebrated the company’s 50th anniversary. In New Philadelphia the celebration will take place July 23-24 and in Minerva on Aug. 16.
In July 1976, Paul White and his wife Susan opened their first Medicine Shoppe franchise on West Tuscarawas Street in Canton. In those early days, 90% of customers paid out of pocket, and the average prescription cost $8, according to a community announcement. After 30 years as a Medicine Shoppe franchise, the White family transitioned to their own Medicine Center Pharmacy.
‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ continues
The Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County in New Philadelphia continues its run of the musical “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” on weekends, Friday through Sunday, through July 12. There will be no performance July 4, but there will be two performances July 11. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. Matinees will be at 2:30 p.m. July 6, 11 and 13.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children and students, available by calling the KSU Performing Arts Center Box Office at 330-308-6400 or at the theater before performances.
Authors discuss their books
Two authors will talk about their books and answer questions during their visit to the main library in New Philadelphia.
At 6 p.m. June 30, Pete Kavadas will talk about growing up in a West Virginia steel town in his memoir “Most Unlikely to Succeed.” At 6 p.m. July 15, Carrie Ruegsegger will discuss her book “Chin Up, Beautiful, I’ve Got You,” composed of personal letters written to her younger self. Vaccinations, physicals at health department
Parents and guardians can schedule children’s required school vaccinations at the Tuscarawas County Health Department in Dover by calling 330-343-5555, ext. 1810, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fridays. Talk with your medical provider if you have questions about childhood vaccines.
Vaccine costs are covered by most insurances. Low-cost vaccines are available for those who do not have insurance. Sports and work physicals are available for people up to age 26 for $45.
Library offers museum passes
The Tuscarawas County Public Library System offers a variety of local and state passes to museums and attractions to check out this summer. They include:
Library patrons with a valid TCPL adult card in good standing may borrow a pass. Museum passes are limited to one pass per household at one time.
