Roundup: Northridge boys win district track championship

Jamie Odrumsky and Colton Isler each won a pair of individual events May 23, leading the Northridge boys track team to the Division IV, District 1 championship.

Odrumsky crossed in a time of 11.15 seconds to win the 100-meter dash, and he later won the 200 (22.48). Isler swept the 110 hurdles (15.11) and 300 hurdles (40.22) for the Vikings, who racked up 116 points, finishing ahead of runner-up North Union’s 97.

Odrumsky and Isler also joined Elias Zanks and Wiley Cascioli on the runner-up 1,600 relay (3:35.90). Zanks joined Alex Conkel, Declan Brannigan and Carter Creekbaum on the third-place 800 relay (1:34.77), and Zanks placed third in the 400 (52.87).

Odrumsky, Cascioli, Creekbaum and Conkel placed fourth in the 400 relay (45.42) as did Benjamin Hilton in the 1,600 (4:50.17) also qualifying to next week’s regional at Marion Harding.

The Utica foursome of Andrew Bebout, Sam Krueger, Hunter McKinney and Hayden Quinif won the 1,600 relay (3:32.32).

Bebout in the 800 (2:02.53) and McKinney in the 400 (50.40) each took runner-up, and McKinney and Bebout joined Quinif and Cameron Sarnes on the runner-up 800 relay (1:33.25). Krueger added a fourth-place finish in the 800 (2:03.60).

In the girls meet, Utica’s McKenzie Watson and Madison Watson joined Olive Ley and Gracie Danison on the runner-up 800 relay (1:51.41) and joined Baileigh Yates and Madison Yates on the runner-up 1,600 relay (4:22.47). Baileigh Yates also placed third in the 300 hurdles (49.65), and Ley added a fourth-place finish in the 400 (1:02.47).

Travis sweeps for Northridge

Ava Travis was victorious in all four of her events for the Northridge girls during the Division IV, District 2 meet at Granville.

Travis won the 100-meter dash (12.35 seconds), 200 (25.98) and 400 (58.65). She also joined Dixie Ashbrook-Hall, Macey Van Fossen and Summer Strout on the winning 1,600 relay (4:13.68).

Ashbrook-Hall added third-place finishes in the 100 hurdles (16.96) and 300 hurdles (48.66), qualifying for next week’s regional at Marion Harding.

Granville boys take runner-up

The Granville boys won three more events on the final day of the Division II, District 2 championships at Hilliard Darby to take runner-up in the team standings.

Bode Shoaps crossed in a time of 10.97 seconds to win the 100-meter dash. Teammate Callum Sproul won the 800 (2:00.74), and the foursome of Liam Duffey, Grady Johnson, Dimas Spencer and Nolan Cheney won the 1,600 relay (3:27.07) as the Blue Aces totaled 120 points, trailing only Canal Winchester’s 162.

Shoaps added a runner-up finish in the 200 (22.52) and joined Duffey, Cohen Fisher and Carter Rhyan on the runner-up 400 relay (43.33). Benjamin Rose also took runner-up in the 1,600 (4:28.73) with Sproul taking third (4:30.74), qualifying for next week’s regional at Lexington.

In the girls meet, Granville’s won the Audrey Ames 100 hurdles (15.70). She also joined Tory Reynolds, Anna Ehrlich and Charlotte Turner on the runner-up 800 relay (1:46.27), and Turner, Reynolds, Ehrlich and Ayla Cook placed third in the 400 relay (50.27).

Elsa Tonnessen added a third-place finish in the 1,600 (5:15.83). Lily Kronk placed fourth in the 800 (2:21.70), and Kronk also joined Turner, Sadie Tritico and Kenzie Hadley on the fourth-place 1,600 relay (4:16.53).

Klontz takes third

Ariana Klontz crossed in a time of 47.80 seconds seconds to place third in the 300-meter hurdles for the Heath girls during the Division III district championships at Hilliard Darby. Klontz also joined Rilynn Mitchell, Lexi Brown and Laina Purington on the third-place 1,600 relay (4:15.17), qualifying to next week’s regional at Muskingum University.

Johnstown’s Ava Ruffle added a third-place finish in the 400 (1:02.70), and Licking Valley’s Rylynn Walker took fourth in the 400 (1:03.15). Also placing fourth were Lakewood’s Jaylie Maas, Josie Lynch, Hallie Layne and Sydney Taylor in the 800 relay (1:48.07) and Johnstown’s Ella Hiebel in the 1,600 (5:35.39).

In the boys meet, Lakewood’s Braylon Brooks placed third in the 400 (50.67), and Valley’s Liam Zellner was right behind in fourth (50.69). Johnstown’s Cameron Beverick also took fourth in the 800 (1:57.43).

NC relay takes second

The foursome of Peter Moberg, Dylan Daube, Warren Moberg and Drake Urdarovski crossed in a time of 45.53 seconds to take runner-up in the 400-meter relay for the Newark Catholic boys during the Division V district championships at Granville.

Peter Moberg and Warren Moberg also joined Eli Windon and Joseph Lepi on the fourth-place 1,600 relay (3:40.10), and Peter Moberg added a fourth in the 100 (11.51), qualifying for next week’s regional at Cuyahoga Heights.

In the girls meet, NC’s Calla Whitlach, Sophia Basham, Aubrey Winters and Leah Caudill placed third in the 400 relay (53.68), and teammate Avery Yehle placed fourth in the 800 (2:24.16). Granville Christian’s Eliana Jackson placed fourth in the 200 (27.03).

BASEBALL

Utica rolls

Aaron Hays’ RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning capped Utica’s 10-0 victory against No. 12 North Union in a Division V tournament game at Licking Valley.

Jaxson Riggs struck out five in a five-inning three-hit shutout for No. 11 Utica (7-19), which visits No. 1 Northridge for a district semifinal at 5 p.m. May 26. Elijah Bland notched two hits, including a triple, scored two runs and knocked in three, and Hays and Gaige Spray each doubled, combining for four hits, four runs and three RBIs with Nate Hite adding two hits and two RBIs.

Granville wins at home

Chase Shepherd and Chase Holtzapple combined for 11 strikeouts, pitching a five-inning one-hit shutout in Granville’s 16-0 victory against visiting Whitehall in a Division III tournament game.

Jake Johnson, Max Hall and Luke Bosse recorded two hits, two runs and an RBI each to lead the No. 6 Blue Aces (15-9-1), who play No. 4 Bloom-Carroll in a district semifinal at 7 p.m. May 27 at Beavers Field. Wilson Wells added a home run.
