Roundup: Newark’s Lininger, Erlenbach win bowling titles

A pair of Newark bowlers each took medalist honors Jan. 31 during the Kilbourne Wolves Postseason Prep.

Linus Lininger rolled a 705 series to take the top spot in the boys event. He finished ahead of runner-up James Chapman III, of Miamisburg, who rolled a 679.

Lainee Erlenbach rolled a 599 series to take the top spot in the girls event. She finished ahead of runner-up Raina Hogstrom, of Northmont, who rolled a 565.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Utica edges Mount Vernon

Gracie Cyphers defended a final shot from the block at the buzzer as Utica held off host Mount Vernon (10-8, 6-7) on Jan. 31 to earn a 39-37 victory in Licking County League play.

Utica, which has won nine consecutive games, held Mount Vernon without a point on its final five possessions to stay a game behind first-place Johnstown in the loss column in Cardinal Division play. Makena Wilson led Utica (14-3, 11-2) with 16 points, and Emily Ritzer added 12, scoring all of her points in the second half.

INDOOR TRACK

McCracken bumps up mark

Annie McCracken reset her school record, clearing 13 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault Feb. 1 for the Granville girls to win the event during the Muskingum February HS Meet.

Tory Reynolds matched McCracken with a win in the triple jump (35-2). Reynolds also joined Charlotte Turner, Anna Ehrlich and Audrey Ames on the winning 800-meter relay (1:50.93).

In the boys meet, the Granville foursome of Cohen Fisher, Nolan Cheney, Cooper Duncan and Dimas Spencer won the 800 relay (1:37.72).
