Richland County football roundup: Crestview scores 28 unanswered points vs. Keystone

MANSFIELD — Week 3 is in the books.

Crestview 28, Keystone 14

The Crestview Cougars needed to pull off an epic comeback to win their first game of the 2025 season on Friday night.

Down 14-0 to Keystone early in the second quarter, the Cougars rallied off 28 straight points and pitched a shutout the rest of the way to come away with a momentum-building Week 3 win.

Senior Ayden Reymer got the scoring started with a 14-yard run with 8:51 left in the second quarter before Keith Abshire added a 34-yard run with 6:11 left in the half. Senior quarterback Liam Kuhn ended a big second quarter with a 2-yard run with 1:14 remaining in the half to give the Cougars their first lead of the game. They added an insurance score when Reymer ripped off a 61-yard TD run with 8:15 left in the third quarter to seal the victory.

Reymer ran for 147 yards on 22 carries while Bransen Hider had 88 yards on 15 carries, Keith Abshire had 42 yards on four carries, Liam Kuhn ran for 8 yards on four carries and Wyatt Barber had four yards on two carries.

Kuhn completed 9 of 13 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown as he completed passes to five different receivers. Max Durbin had three catches for 29 yards while Carter Goon had one catch for 18 yards, Carson Keener had two ctaches for 18 yards, Hider had two catches for 15 yards and Dylan Burge added one catch for eight yards.

The Cougars improve to 1-2 on the season and host New London in Week 4.

Cleveland Villa Angela St. Joseph 38, Mansfield Senior 7

The Mansfield Senior Tygers fell to 0-3 on the season after a 38-7 loss to Cleveland Villa Angela St. Joseph on Friday night.

After falling behind 17-0 in the second quarter, the Tygers got on the board when Ryan Au plowed in from 2 yards with 33 seconds left in the half to trail 17-7. The Tygers were shut out the rest of the way and allowed 21 unanswered points in the third quarter.

Ajahi Evans led the Tygers with 39 rushing yards on 12 carries while Sean Tanner added 14 yards on seven carries and Au had 6 yards on five carries with a score. Tanner was 5-for-17 for 90 yards passing. Tai Pickett was his favorite target with two catches for 73 yards while Plessie Wentworth had two catches for eight yards and DJ Corbin had one catch for nine yards.

The Tygers fall to 0-3 on the season and host West Holmes in Week 4 to start Ohio Cardinal Conference play.

Wellington 22, Plymouth 6

The Plymouth Big Red dropped a tough one on Friday night to Wellington, 22-6, in nonconference action.

After falling behind 15-0, the Big Red cut into Wellington’s lead with a touchdown to go into the halftime locker room trailing 15-6 with 33 second remaining in the second quarter. Wellington added a final touchdown to go home with the win.

Plymouth is now 0-3 on the year and travels to St. Paul in Week 4.

Danville 26, Lucas 14

The Lucas Cubs dropped a tough nonconference game to Danville on Friday night, 26-14.

The Cubs owned a 7-0 lead thanks to a 63-yard drive that chewed up 9:44 of the first quarter clock. The Cubs let the score stand through the first half as they took a seven-point lead into the intermission. Danville scored 26 points in the second half to steal the win.

Lucas is now 1-2 on the year and hosts Vanlue in Week 4.
