The nearly completed expansion of Resch’s Bakery has instead become a move.
The family-owned bakery that has had two homes on Columbus’ East Side during 113 years in business says it will close down operations at 4061 E. Livingston Ave. a week before its planned opening in Gahanna.
The current home of Resch’s will close Sept. 30, David Resch said. The new bakery at 150 N. Hamilton Road is scheduled to open the week of Oct. 6.
Resch’s first shared its plans in August 2024 for the former Dollar General store on North Hamilton near Granville Street in Gahanna. It was announced as an expansion that would allow the bakery to produce a wider selection of cakes, doughnuts and other baked goods.
Resch said that’s still the case. The move adds space that will allow the bakery to grow in both volume and variety, he said.
“It’s a move and an expansion,” Resch said.
Resch’s opened in 1912 at 1029 E. Livingston Ave. The bakery opened its current Livingston Avenue location in 1960.
