The Cincinnati Reds avoided being on the wrong side of history at Great American Ball Park on Monday, June 22.
In the series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers, starter Brandon Woodruff took a perfect game and no-hitter into the sixth inning. The Reds spoiled both with one swing when catcher Tyler Stephenson hit a one-out single to left field.
Woodruff is making his first start since going on the IL in April with right shoulder inflammation. The longtime Brewer had not faced the Reds since September 2022.
The Brewers are one of seven MLB teams to never be involved in a perfect game. The Reds have never had a perfect game thrown against them. Tom Browning threw the franchise’s long perfect game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1988.
The Brewers had not pitched a no-hitter since Corbin Burnes and Josh Hader combined for one against Cleveland in September 2021. The Reds were last no-hit by San Francisco left-hander Blake Snell in August 2024.
