A structure that can be seen off state Route 261 in Kent known locally as The Dome is on the market, for those who may be interested in starting a business venture in an eye-catching structure.
Cutler Homes, which is handling the sale of the property, which is at 166 Currie Hall, has it listed at $185,000. The listing describes it as a “unique geodesic dome property.” The building sits on .94 acres and was constructed in 1978. It was first listed on May 28.
“Most recently 166 Currie Hall was the Moonbase Bar, which at the time of closing billed itself as Kent’s only 18+ LGBTQ+ bar,” Eric Helmstedter, Kent’s economic development director, stated in an email to the Beacon Journal. “Prior to that, it is my understanding it had predominantly been some iteration of a bar/nightlife business.”
According to the city, the Moonbase Bar closed for a brief period but reopened in September 2024. It’s last social media post was made the following month.
“The city would welcome a viable re-vitalization of that property,” said Dave Ruller, Kent’s city manager.
