Man with gunshot wound in Barberton dies after crash into utility pole

One man died and two others sustained injuries after a vehicle crashed into a FirstEnergy utility pole in Barberton on June 18, according to a Barberton Police Department news release.

Barberton police officers responded to the crash in the area of South Van Buren Avenue and Harold Avenue at 10 p.m., finding a 20-year-old man lying on the sidewalk with bystanders performing CPR, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary examination showed that the man sustained an apparent gunshot wound.

The man’s identity has not been released.

The two other passengers were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

There is an ongoing investigation by the Barberton Police Department Detective Bureau, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.
