The drive was only four plays: a James Perry 18-yard run, a Clifford 11-yard pass to Nicholas Hall, a Harrison Drvenkar 10-yard run and the Clifford 26-yard TD run.

Copley vs. Revere high school football rivalry

This is the 75th meeting between the teams, who are even at 37 wins apiece. Copley defeated Revere 47-35 in a Week 9 regular-season game last season, and two weeks later ninth-seeded Revere defeated eighth-seeded Copley 34-28 in a Division III, Region 10 first-round playoff game. 

According to Phil Heyn of Revere, the rivalry began before the formation of Revere, back when the Bath Buccaneers and the Richfield Rockets played against Copley in the Old Summit County League.

The current schools first played each other in football in 1950 and 1951. There were no games in 1952 and 1953. The series resumed in 1954 and there has been a regular season game every year since then.

Copley won the games against Revere in 1950, 1951, 1954, 1955 and 1956. Revere won in 1957, 1958 and 1959.

Copley held a 14-6 edge in the series from 1950 to 1971, with six wins in a row from 1960 to 1965.

Revere compiled a 16-5 edge in the series from 1972-1992, with seven wins in a row from 1977 to 1983 and 1986 to 1992 to lead the series 22-19.

From 1993 to the present, Copley has 18 wins and Revere has 14 wins. Revere had a five-game win streak from 1994-1998. Copley had four-game win streaks from 2002-2005 and 2014-2017.

Revere has won five of the eight games since 2018, including the playoff game in 2025.

Scouting the Copley High School football team

Copley is led by OT-NG Lucas Tielsch, a University of Minnesota recruit. He is an elite blocker on offense and has eight tackles for loss, three sacks and an interception on defense.

Copley QB Dane Wininger is 87-of-157 passing for 1,381 yards with 15 touchdowns and four interceptions. Wininger also has 54 carries for 324 yards and eight TDs.

Bryce Martin is Copley’s top running back with 1,198 yards and 17 TDs on 158 carries. Martin also has a TD reception, a kickoff return for a TD and an interception. Jalen Owens has two TD runs, and Michael Garden Jr. and Anderson Madden have one TD run apiece.

Andrew McKnight is Copley’s leading receiver with 37 catches for 781 yards and 12 TDs and has intercepted a pass. Jacob Kuczkowski has 28 catches for 360 yards and one TD. Noah Slattery also has a TD reception.

Copley’s leading tacklers are Hendrix Sickels, Rhalachi Childs, Donovan Crook and Ashton Smith. Sickels has 99 tackles (58 solo, 13 for loss) and two sacks. Childs has 61 tackles (45 solo, 11 for loss) and three sacks. Crook has 57 tackles (22 solo, 11 for loss) and two sacks. Smith has 40 tackles (23 solo, six for loss).

Owens has four interceptions and returned one for a TD. Collin Witherspoon II and Nylan Garden both have two interceptions. Kuczkowski also has a defensive TD on a fumble return. Copley kicker Matthew Panzner is 45 of 47 on PATs. McKnight is averaging 38.0 yards on 17 punts with four inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.

Scouting the Revere High School football team

Revere QB Chase Clifford is 40-of-83 passing for 614 yards and eight touchdowns with five interceptions.

WR-RB Harrison Drvenkar is a versatile athlete for Revere with a punt return for a TD, 49 carries for 309 yards and three TDs, and 20 catches for 323 yards and five TDs.

James Perry (75 carries, 365 yards, 11 TDs) and Johlil Blanchard (63 carries, 451 yards, three TDs) are key running backs for Revere and Uriah Pulliam has caught two TD passes.

Revere’s Nicholas Hall has caught one TD pass and is also a talented linebacker with 82 tackles (49 solo, five for loss), two sacks, four interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Three other top defenders for the Minutemen are Elijah Sedor (35 tackles, 21 solo, eight for loss, seven sacks), Tyler Frate (35 tackles, 23 solo, one interception and two forced fumbles) and Joel Caipen (27 tackles, 19 solo, five for loss, 5½ sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery).

Revere kicker David Kennedy is 25 of 26 on PATs and is 1 of 2 on field goals with a make from 35 yards. Michael McCauley and Donovan Juby share the punting role. McCauley is averaging 40.0 yards on 13 punts with five inside the opponent’s 20-yard line and two inside the opponent’s 10-yard line. Juby is averaging 41.1 yards on seven punts with one inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.

Who are the head coaches for the Copley and Revere football teams?

John Kromalic is in his third season as Copley’s head coach and is 13-17. Copley is 7-2 this season after going 5-6 in 2024 and 1-9 in 2023 under Kromalic.

Bobby Nickol is in his fourth season as Revere’s head coach and is 22-20. Revere is 7-2 this season after going 7-5 in 2024, 5-6 in 2023 and 3-7 in 2022 under Nickol. He was the St. Vincent-St. Mary head coach for four seasons prior to Revere, and is 46-36 overall.

Kromalic was promoted to Copley’s head coach in March of 2023 after serving as the offensive coordinator at Copley for two seasons under former coach Jake Parsons. Kromalic is a 2014 graduate of Copley, where he played quarterback. He also has previous assistant coaching experience at Brecksville and Nordonia. He is a teacher at Copley.

Nickol was hired as Revere’s head coach in January of 2022 after Robb Karovic was the head coach for two seasons. He had the four-year stint as STVM head coach after an 11-year stint as a Barberton assistant coach.

Nickol led the St. Vincent St. Mary football program from 2018-2021 and compiled a 24-16 record with three Division III playoff appearances (2019, 2020 and 2021). The Irish went 2-3 in the playoffs under his guidance.

Nickol, a 2002 graduate of Barberton High School, came to STVM with 13 years of football coaching experience with stints at his alma mater and at Hickory Ridge in North Carolina. Nickol was Barberton’s offensive coordinator and quarterback coach under Magics coach Tony Gotto. Nickol helped lead Barberton’s 2017 team to a 10-0 regular season, a Division II regional final appearance and a 12-1 overall record.
