Major League Baseball announced the players who will be invited to the 2026 MLB draft combine, and one of them will be wearing Scarlet and Gray.
Junior Ohio State catcher Mason Eckelman received the call after a stellar season with a batting average of .304, collecting 59 hits, 15 doubles, four triples, eight home runs, 47 RBIs, and scoring 42 runs. He had a .968 OPS and was an All-Big Ten Third Team selection.
According to a release from the Ohio State Department of Athletics, the MLB draft combine will take place from June 23-26 and be held at Chase Field, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, in Phoenix, Ariz. The top 300 MLB Draft prospects, as identified by MLB clubs, have been invited. The combine will feature 335 overall draft prospects, including 195 college players.
Eckelman is just the third Buckeye to be invited to the combine in the last four years, with pitcher Isaiah Coupet participating in 2023, and pitcher Blaine Wynk receiving an invitation in 2025. Though not nearly as buzz-inducing as the NFL draft combine, if you’d like to watch all of the action, the MLB Network will provide coverage starting at noon ET on June 23. The draft combine workouts on June 24 will be streamed across MLB’s digital platforms.
The 2026 MLB Draft will then take place later, from July 11-12 in Philadelphia.
