Steel bands to perform

ALLIANCE – The Mount Union Raider Steel Band and Jackson High School Steel Band will present a free spring concert at 7:30 p.m. April 27 in Brush Performance Hall of the Giese Center for the Performing Arts, 67 W. Simpson St.

Angel Auction fundraiser is May 8

CANTON – The 2026 Angel Auction, “A Western Adventure: Big Skies, Boots & Bling,” will be held May 8 at the Memorial Civic Center, 1101 Market Ave. N. Presented by The Women’s Board of Aultman Hospital, the fundraising event will be a Western-inspired evening with entertainment, dining and silent and live auctions. The silent auction will open online at 8 a.m. April 27.

Proceeds will support a $1.5 million pledge to transform the Aultman Massillon campus with an upgraded laboratory, modernized patient-care areas and a therapy center featuring a state-of-the-art aquatic therapy pool.

CANTON – The McKinley Presidential Library & Museum, 800 McKinley Monument Drive NW, will host its Soup at Six program “Stories of the Sky” at 6 p.m. May 7. Hoover-Price Planetarium presenters will discuss myths and legends told by the stars.

Preregistration is required. Tickets are available online at qrco.de/bgMTnx or by calling 330-455-7043 during regular business hours. The deadline for reservations is April 30. The cost is $25 per person and includes the program, soup, bread, beverage and dessert.

Timken Gatehouse dedication set

CANTON – The public is invited to the official dedication and reopening of the Timken Gatehouse from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30 at Stadium Park, 1305 Stadium Park Drive NW.

Built in 1911, the Gatehouse once served as the eastern entrance to the Timken mansion and provided a home for families who cared for the estate, as well as employees of Timken Mercy Hospital. The restored Gatehouse now will serve as a venue for small weddings, receptions, family gatherings, wellness programs and community events.

Project REBUILD sets annual breakfast

CANTON – Project REBUILD’s annual Community Breakfast will be from 7:30 to 9 a.m. April 30 at the One Center for Leadership building, 901 Tuscarawas St. E.

This year’s theme is “Remixing the Narrative – Building Progress One Beat at a Time.” Hear from the young people whose lives are being changed through access to education, employment and long-term support. The guest speaker will be Jéan P The MC. To buy tickets, visit https://tinyurl.com/yvp52dc6.

New Berlin Symphonic Winds to perform

CANTON – New Berlin Symphonic Winds will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. April 29 at Malone University’s Johnson Center, 2600 Cleveland Ave. NW. The concert is open to the public.

Selections include concert band favorites such as Joseph Willcox Jenkins’ “American Overture for Band,” Percy Grainger’s “Irish Tune from County Derry and Spoon River,” and Richard Roger’s “Victory at Sea.”

The New Berlin Symphonic Winds was established in April 2025 as the next chapter of the Kent State University at Stark Concert Band.

LAKE TWP. – The Quail Hollow Herbal Society will have its Spring Herb and Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 2 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 3 at the Manor House at Quail Hollow Park, 13480 Congress Lake Ave. NE. Craft items also will be for sale.

Celebrate Massillon

MASSILLON – The Heritage Foundation will celebrate the bicentennial of Massillon on May 16 at Massillon Five Oaks, 210 Fourth St. NE. The celebration begins at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

“Massillon Memories in Story and Song” is the entertainment of the evening featuring local talent directed by Lee Lavery.

The cost for dinner is $40 per person. Make checks payable to Massillon Heritage Foundation and mail the check to the Massillon Woman’s Club, 210 Fourth St. NE, Massillon, Ohio 44646. All reservations must be received by May 4. For more information, call Linda Tarle at 330-312-2653.

Historical Society sets meeting, garage sale

NAVARRE – The Navarre Bethlehem Township Historical Society, 123 High St., will have its next monthly meeting May 13.

It will hold its annual garage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 14, 15 and 16. Donations (no clothes) for the garage sale may be dropped off any Wednesday morning from 9 to 11 a.m. If you are unable to drop off your items, call Tom Diehl at 330-879-5938 to make an arrangement for pickup. Arab Christian to speak

PLAIN TWP. − Andrew Abu-Ghazaleh, an Arab Christian from Nazareth, Israel, will give a presentation from 1 to 4 p.m. May 2 at Compassion Church, 1720 Schneider St. NE. He will address topics including “The State of the Church in the Israel and the Middle East,” “How Jesus is Using the Church,” and “Equipping Christian Leaders.” The event is free, but goodwill offerings will be accepted.

Kittens at the library

NORTH CANTON – The North Canton Public Library, 185 N. Main St., will host its annual kitten shower from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 2.

Donate kitten formula, cat and kitten food, litter, toys, scratchers, and gently used towels to local pet adoption organizations. Meet adoptable cats and kittens and learn about volunteering and fostering.

In May, the library is having a Popsicle Stick Extravaganza. Decorate one side of a popsicle stick for a collaborative project and then return the popsicle stick to the Adult & Teen or Children’s departments. They will be arranged and displayed in the library.

Perry History Club plans activities

PERRY TWP. – The Perry History Club’s annual rummage sale will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 7 to 9 at Richville Park, 6655 Navarre Road SW. Donations for the rummage sale will be accepted at Richville Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 4 and 6.

The club’s plant sale will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 16 at the old Genoa Schoolhouse, 539 Genoa Road.
