Newark police, fire to have training exercise with simulated gunfire

Newark fire and police divisions will have a joint training exercise during which they expect to simulate gunfire and other training methods at White Field.

The exercise will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 15 at the field, 70 N. 11th St. In a social media post, the agencies shared plans with residents, so they aren’t alarmed about the simulation and to avoid the area during that time.

“Residents in the surrounding area may hear simulated gunfire as part of the exercise,” Newark police said in the post. “They will also notice an increased presence of police officers, firefighters, emergency vehicles and other first responders throughout the day.

“This is only a training exercise. We ask the public not to be alarmed and to avoid the area while training is underway. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.”
