Moeller-St. Xavier, Loveland-Fenwick set for boys volleyball regionals

The Division I and II regional finals are set in the Ohio High School Athletic Association boys volleyball state tournament.

On May 23 at Mason, the boys will play in the Region 4 and 8 finals for the chance to advance to the OHSAA state tournament. Loveland and Fenwick begin the day at 11 a.m. in the Division II regional, followed by a Greater Catholic League-South bout at 1 p.m. between Moeller and St. Xavier.

Loveland, the top seed in Region 8, beat two-time defending Division II champion in the regional semifinals on May 20. The Tigers avoided a reverse sweep, beating McNicholas 25-14, 25-23, 18-25, 19-25, 15-7.

The Tigers and No. 2 Fenwick met on March 14 in their season-opening days. Loveland swept the Falcons 25-21, 25-22, 25-13 in that match.

For the Region 4 title, the St. Xavier Bombers and the Moeller Crusaders will need to play for a fourth time this season.

Moeller won the GCL-South outright, but St. Xavier beat the Crusaders twice in the three regular-season meetings. Moeller won the first meeting in five sets, but fell the next day in the Centerville Elite, a loss that did not count in the conference standings. St. Xavier also won the most recent meeting, sweeping the Crusaders on May 1.

Moeller, the Region 4 top seed, swept Elder 25-13, 25-18, 25-21 in the semifinals on May 21. St. Xavier swept Lakota East 25-20, 25-17, 25-17 the day before.

The Bombers will play for their third-straight regional championship while Moeller will attempt to reach the state tournament for the first time since winning three-straight state championships from 2021 to 2023.

When, where is the OHSAA boys volleyball state tournament?

The OHSAA state tournament will again be at Wittenberg University on May 29 and May 30.

The semifinals will be on May 29 with the two championships the next day. The Region 4 winner will meet the Region 3 champion at 2 p.m. on May 29 and the Region 8 champion plays at 4 p.m. against the Region 5 representative.

On May 30, the Division I state final will be at noon, with the Division II game following the trophy ceremony.
