A teen has pleaded guilty to charges related to a drive-by shooting involving two Marion Police Department officers in September 2025.
Tanner Harden, of Mansfield, pleaded guilty to six counts of complicity to felonious assault on May 5 at the Marion County Courthouse. He now awaits sentencing.
“I’m pleased that this part of the case is over,” Marion Police Chief Jay McDonald said. “We look forward to the sentencing. This was an extremely violent crime, and it’s only by the grace of God that somebody wasn’t seriously hurt or killed.”
The drive-by shooting happened Sept. 22 while two Marion Police Department officers were speaking with four community members on North Grand Avenue.
Officers Hannah Greer and Bryon Doubikin were speaking with four people on the front porch of a home, when shots were fired at the home. No one was reported to have been struck by bullets or seriously injured.
The gun was fired from a vehicle believed to be driven by Harden, a press release from Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan stated.
“This was a brazen act of violence that endangered Marion citizens and two police officers who were simply doing their jobs,” Grogan said. “When gunfire is directed toward the porch of a family home, that’s not just a criminal act. It’s an attack on the peace and safety every Marion resident deserves.”
Harden was 16 years old at the time of the shooting.
Grogan will seek an 18-year sentence from Judge Todd Anderson. Sentencing is scheduled for July 16.
“Thugs who enable drive by shootings must face tough justice,” Grogan said. “Harden helped unleash gunfire in a neighborhood and he placed everyone there in the line of fire. I’ll be asking for an 18-year prison sentence because the danger Harden created was flat-out unacceptable.”
Both police officers have returned to work, but McDonald said they were “severely impacted by this traumatic, violent event.”
Court records show Isaiah Redmon, who was also arrested in relation to the shooting, faces more than 30 charges. His trial, set for May 11, has been continued.
