Lucas Patrick calf injury: Bengals guard hurt in NFL Week 1 game vs Browns

Cincinnati Bengals guard Lucas Patrick suffered a calf injury during the second quarter of the team’s season-opening NFL Week 1 game against the Cleveland Browns at Huntington Bank Field.

Patrick limped off the field and entered the blue medical tent for evaluation. Patrick then walked to the locker room.

The Bengals announced that Patrick has a right calf injury, and his return was doubtful. During halftime, Patrick was downgraded to out.

Backup Dalton Risner entered the game to replace Patrick, who is listed on the Bengals’ depth chart as backup center as well.

Patrick also was nursing a leg injury during training camp. He limped off the practice field under his own power July 25 as he headed to the locker room. He was seen with a sleeve on his calf after practice.

Patrick missed practice July 27, and again wore the sleeve.

The Bengals announced in March that they signed Patrick as an unrestricted free agent to a one-year deal.

Patrick, who turned 32 in July, has played guard and center during his eight NFL seasons. He played in 11 games during the 2024 season for the New Orleans Saints, starting 10. He did not play in the Saints’ final two games of the season because of a knee injury.

Patrick played the previous two seasons for the Chicago Bears, starting 20 of the 23 games in which he played. He played in 73 games over his first five NFL seasons for the Green Bay Packers.

The Packers signed Patrick, who played college football at Duke, as an undrafted free agent in 2016.
