Gusts up to 34 mph are possible late in the day on June 17 in Cincinnati, according to the National Weather Service of Wilmington.
In response, Duke Energy is preparing for damaging winds, the company said in an email. Its technicians and tree crews will be ready to respond.
Cincinnati’s storms will be offshoots of stronger storms in central Indiana that could cause tornadoes, hail and 75-plus mph winds, meteorologist John Franks said.
When will thunderstorms hit
Surface wind speeds rise gradually all morning with gusts expected to exceed 20 mph by late afternoon. The highest winds are expected later in the evening and at night.
Showers and thunderstorms will develop through late afternoon and then move southeast across the area overnight, according to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the weather service.
Some severe storms will be possible in the region with damaging wind being the primary threat. “However, large hail, localized flash flooding and a few tornadoes will also be possible,” the outlook states.
Thursday is expected to be warm and breezy until the storms begin around midnight, Franks said.
