Kroger’s Columbus Division is breaking ground on a $33-million store in the city of Delaware, its fourth location in fast-growing Delaware County.
The 123,000-square-foot Kroger Marketplace and gas station is coming to 1650 Sunbury Road, near the intersection with Glenn Road. The Cincinnati-based grocery chain is set to break ground on the new location Sept. 24, and the store is slated to open in 2026, according to a news release from Kroger.

The state-of-the-art Marketplace location will include enhanced produce, deli, bakery, meat and seafood departments, and will also feature a sushi counter and a cheese shop. There will also be an expanded apparel section, gas station and more, the release states.
“We’re excited to bring yet another new store to central Ohio and the residents in Delaware,” Jon Young, President of Kroger’s Columbus Division, said in the news release. “This new Kroger Marketplace is for our Ohio residents who trust us as their grocer of choice and shines a light on our commitment to make sure every family has a home store within reach to find fresh, affordable groceries.”
The new Sunbury Road location will be the third brand-new Kroger store in central Ohio since 2024 after a store opened in November 2024 in Jerome Township near Plain City and a Home Road Marketplace in Powell that is set to open its doors in November.
The new Powell and Delaware locations are part of more than $97 million Kroger is investing in central and northwest Ohio, along with at least 18 renovations, including in Columbus, Upper Arlington and Hilliard, The Dispatch reported in May.
