PHILADELPHIA — Kevin Stefanski spoke for the first time since Myles Garrett’s citation for driving 100 mph in Strongsville became public Aug. 13.

The Browns coach was asked about the citation, which the All-Pro defensive end received early Aug. 9, before the first joint practice at the Philadelphia Eagles.
“Extremely disappointing,” Stefanski said. “It’s been addressed with Myles and with the football team. He needs to slow down for his safety and the safety of others.”
When asked if the team had disciplined Garrett in any way, Stefanski said, “I’ll keep everything internal.”
Garrett, according to the citation from Strongsville police, was cited for doing 100 in a 60 mph zone near Drake Road on Interstate 71 at 2:01 a.m. He was driving a gray Ferrari after the Browns arrived back in Cleveland from a preseason game at the Carolina Panthers.
The 29-year-old’s date at Strongsville Mayor’s Court is Aug. 14. However, Garrett could waive the appearance by paying the fine.
It was the second incident this summer of a Browns player being pulled over on I-71 in Strongsville for driving faster than 100. Rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders was cited on June 17 for going 101 mph in a 60 mph zone, one of two speeding tickets he received in a two-week span, with the other for doing 91 mph in a 65 mph zone June 5 in Medina.
“Obviously, I’ll keep that message between Shedeur and myself, but I will tell you — he knows this, and all of our rookies know this — they need to make sure that they’re being safe, and that can be whether behind the wheel of a car or they’re in and around town,” Stefanski said July 24 of Sanders’ tickets. “They need to make really good decisions so that they’re safe.”
Garrett has been cited several times for speeding since arriving in Cleveland in 2017. That includes consecutive days in Strongsville for driving 120 mph on I-71 Sept. 24, 2021, and then for doing 105 mph the very next day.
The last time came on Sept. 26, 2022, when he was cited for failure to control at an unsafe speed after he and a female passenger were involved in a one-car crash on State Road near Ridgewood Road in Sharon Township. Garrett was traveling 65 mph in a 45 mph zone in his Porsche 911 Turbo S when he went off the side of the roadway, struck a ditch and a fire hydrant and overturned several times.
