Despite over 40 hours of searching, officials said they have yet to find a capsized kayaker in the Ohio River.
The New Richmond Fire Department has closed a boat ramp and urged boats passing through the nearly 4-mile-long search zone to reduce their wake.
On June 4, three kayaks capsized near New Richmond around 4 p.m. Two people were accounted for, officials said, but another remains missing.
Saturday, June 6, marks the third day of multi-agency rescue efforts. Over six local agencies, led by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, have been involved in the search effort, officials said.
“Excessive wake can interfere with recovery operations and create hazards for personnel working on and in the water,” according to a statement by the fire department. Officials ask for a no-wake zone.
The Augusta Street boat launch is temporarily closed, officials said.
