VOLLEYBALL
Bloom-Carroll wins tourney: The Bulldogs won the Lancaster Volleyball Officials Association Tournament at Pickerington North Sept. 13, and in the process, head coach Kyle McFerin picked up his 100th win at Bloom-Carroll. The Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 1 in the state, improved to 13-0.
The Bulldogs won three matches to finish 3-0 to take home the championship. In the first match, the Bulldogs topped Sheridan 25-16, 25-10, defeated Hartley 25-19, 25-22, and cruised past Pickerington North 25-19, 25-8 in their third match. Sylvia Haughn finished with 24 kills and eight aces, while Renee Smith had 52 assists and five aces, Kylee Reiser combined for 13 kills, six blocks and five aces, and Ellie Bratton chipped in 14 kills, four aces and 20 digs.
CROSS COUNTRY
Lancaster girls: The Lady Gales placed first at the Fairfield Union Falcon Invitational. Leading the Gales was senior Harper Allen, who placed second. Brooke Derringer followed in third, Amelia Fries in 10th, Hadley Allen in 11th, Ava Zeiders in 17th, Lily Carpico in 18th and rounding out the scoring was Lindy Neeley in 24th. Out of the field of 148 athletes the Gales were also represented by Katie Coy in 39th, Alia Hopple in 41st, Makenzie Rudduck in 47th, Chelsea Petersen in 62nd, Callie Kretzmann in 63rd, Morgain Johnson in 64th, Brenna Jarrett in 69th, Annabelle Walter in 72nd, Addi Stratton in 100th, Paige Archer in 104th, Taylor Mathias in in 106th, Zoe Fullen in 111th, Julie Rudduck in 122nd and Leigh-Ellen Fullen in 124th. The Lady Gales look to defend their home course Sept. 20 at the Lancaster Bob Reall Invitational.
Fairfield Union: Hosting the Falcon Invitational, the Fairfield Union boys placed first out of 17 teams and 180 athletes competing.
The Falcons’ Connor Runkle was the overall individual champion (15:34.03) and he was followed by Connor Myers 16:26.07 fifth place; Ryan Boyer 16:41.11 13th place; Colin Reindle 16:47.82 16th place; Andrew Ray 16:58.39 17th place; Chase Myers 17:43.76 32nd place; Ethan Phillips 18:11.53 41st place; Caleb Tiller 18:57.10 69th place; Howard Bean 19:16.88 80th place; Landen Winters 19:17.47 81st place; Logan Osborn 19:45.39 96th place; Brentley Dachenhaus 22:02.12 141st place and Kenseth Baumbusch 24:30.43 161st place.
The Lady Falcons placed third out of 12 teams. There were 148 athletes in the race. Leading the way for the Falcons was Sadie Schultz 19:23.98 fourth place; Vera Henderly 20:00.77 ninth place; Ellen Morgan 21:10.48 19th place; Kate Springer 21:48.14 27th place; Ava Wilkinson 22:32.06 40th place; Katelynn Huntzinger 22:48.92 46th place; Ruthie Bailey 24:04.06 53rd place; Zoe Lama 29:44.94 129th place.
Liberty Union: The Lions competed at the Falcon Invitational September 13. The girls team placed eighth and was led by Rachel Sponseller (23rd, 21:27). She was followed by Taylor Jones (42nd, 22:33), Elizabeth Conn (44th, 22:38), Caroline Endsley (65th, 24:03), Emily Shultz (89th, 25:28), Lily Endsley (94th, 26:01), Alaina Brate (108th, 27:06) and Kathleen Slaby (123rd, 28:57).
The boys’ team placed 14th and was led by William McCreery (20th, 17:03). He was followed by Charlie Sponseller (74th, 19:10), Micah Fisher (106th, 20:32), Levi Hendershot (127th, 21:23), Silas Kohler (135th, 21:46) and Hunter Maddux (162nd, 24:32).
Fisher Catholic: The Irish competed in the Belpre Invitational. The Irish Boys placed fourth out of 16 Teams, scoring 138 points, while Cloverleaf won the meet, scoring 111 points. Leading the Irish was senior Roman Funk, who placed 12th with a time of 17:21. Other Irish runners were Landen Funk- 21st-17:47, Corbin Stobart-30th-18:08, Gordon Crabtree-37th-18:29, Reece Hagy- 39th-18:36, Noah Krile-85th- 20:26, Nicholas Ristau- 108th- 21:19.
The Irish Girls were led by junior Mary Grace Crabtree, who placed 20th with a time of 22:02. Other Irish Runners were Allie Krile, 50th- 24:41, and Hannah Slaby, 113th- 29:51.
