It’s time to vote for the Halifax Health Volusia-Flagler Girls Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 8-13.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal gathers nominees from across the area via email at cvinel@gannett.com. Please send a player’s name, school and notable statistics for a given week. Submissions are due no later than 8 a.m. every Monday.
To round out the ballot, our staff also picks athletes from scores and stats posted online or submitted by local coaches. Athletes for all in-season sports, except football, are eligible. The News-Journal recognizes the local gridiron stars with our weekly game balls story.
Voting in the online poll below will close at 10 a.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour.
Cross Country
Lucy Fulton, Father Lopez: The sophomore ran to third during the Embry-Riddle Cross Country Classic, with her time of 23:51.5 sitting first among Volusia-Flagler participants.
Swimming
Jovi Anderson, Spruce Creek: With a time of 1:13.33, Anderson swam to a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke during the Record Breaker meet.
Laurel Carson, Seabreeze: Carson posted winning times of 2:02.89 in the 200-yard freestyle and 5:23.3 in the 500-yard freestyle at the Record Breaker meet.
Lexie O’Keefe, DeLand: The junior sped to win in the 50-yard freestyle (24.5) and the 100-yard freestyle (55.98) during the Record Breaker meet.
Volleyball
Kaitlyn Ebding, Flagler Palm Coast: The junior led the Bulldogs with 21 digs during a sweep of Menendez. She tacked on 23 digs and 24 serve receptions in a four-set win over Taylor.
