Editor’s note: In 1976, a committee in Clyde named their Christmas festival “Winesburg Christmas,” and the festival continues annually.
Sherwood Anderson, the famous American author who influenced Ernest Hemingway and William Faulkner, grew up in Clyde and lived in this house at 129 Spring Ave.. He was born in 1876, and his family lived in Clyde from about 1884 to 1895. His most famous book, “Winesburg, Ohio,” was about people from Clyde. The spring next to this house was where Clyde’s first settler, Jesse Benton, built his cabin. (Submitted by Larry Michaels and Krista Michaels)
