Hamilton County Courthouse closed Friday for fallen sheriff's deputy's funeral services

The Hamilton County Courthouse and all Clerk of Courts’ offices will be closed Friday, May 9, the day of a public visitation and services for fallen Deputy Larry Henderson.

Courthouse officials said in a news release a “short-term staffing shortage in court security” prompted the closure, while also adding that they wanted to provide an opportunity for court staff, law enforcement and members of the public to attend Henderson’s services.

All Clerk of Courts’ offices and all court buildings (1000 Main Street, E. 9th Street and 800 Broadway) will also be closed.

“We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety while continuing to serve the public,” said Presiding Judge Wende C. Cross. “This decision allows us to prioritize both the well-being of court users and the continuity of justice.”

Law enforcement across Greater Cincinnati poured out support for Henderson after he was fatally struck by a car while directing traffic May 2. Police have said the driver who hit Henderson “intentionally” accelerated his car toward the deputy, just hours after the driver had watched body camera footage of his son being shot by an officer during a stolen car investigation.

Court officials said those with cases scheduled in the Hamilton County Common Pleas Court who have not yet been contacted should contact the courtrooms in which their cases are scheduled to find their next court date.

For those who had court-related business, here are the key changes to know for May 9:

Henderson has two public visitations scheduled for Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Spring Grove Cemetery, and Friday, May 9, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Cintas Center at Xavier University. A public funeral service will follow on Friday, May 9, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Cintas Center.

This story was updated with additional closure details from the Clerk of Courts.
