CLEVELAND — The Guardians and Twins opened a four-game series at Progressive Field, and Cleveland made some franchise history in a 13-4 win.
The Guardians launched seven home runs, which tied a ballpark record. They hit six of those home runs in the first four innings, which had never been done in franchise history.
The Guardians were coming off a series loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates, though it included Travis Bazzana’s first career walk-off home run to conclude a July 18 doubleheader.
Tanner Bibee took the the mound opposite Joe Ryan.

The Guardians have beaten the Twins 13-4. Petey Halpin and Rhys Hoskins both hit two home runs, and Chase DeLauter had a four-hit day.
Guardians tie franchise record for home runs in game at Progressive Field
A Patrick Bailey’s solo home run in the seventh inning was the Guardians’ seventh tonight. That ties a franchise record at Progressive Field, previously set on April 30, 2013. The last time the Guardians hit seven home runs in any game was Aug. 15, 2019, when José Ramírez and Carlos Santana both hit two.
Petey Halpin also continued his career night with a double in the seventh, giving him three extra-base hits, including the first two home runs of his career.
A few batters later, Chase DeLauter drilled a two-run double off the base of the wall in right-center field. The Guardians are up 13-3. DeLauter is now 4-for-5 tonight with two doubles and three RBIs.

The Guardians, with six home runs tonight, took a break from that method in the fifth but still scored, as Patrick Bailey singled home Daniel Schneemann.
It’s 9-2 Guardians. Joe Ryan’s day is mercifully done.
It’s the first time in franchise history the Guardians have hit six home runs in the first four innings of a game.
Petey Halpin blasts second home run; Joe Ryan breaks Twins home runs allowed record
This is just absurd at this point.
Leading off the bottom of the fourth inning, Petey Halpin crushed a solo home run to center field, his second of the night. Halpin entered today with zero career home runs. Now he has two in the first four innings tonight.
The Guardians have six home runs in 15 at-bats. And Joe Ryan has broken the Twins’ franchise record for home runs allowed in a single game.
Halpin and Rhys Hoskins are the first pair of Guardians teammates to both hit two home runs in the same game since José Ramírez and Carlos Santana each went yard in Yankee Stadium on Aug. 15, 2019.
Rhys Hoskins belts second home run of the game
Rhys Hoskins has seen three pitches from Twins starter Joe Ryan tonight. He’s hit two of them out of the ballpark.
Hoskins has two solo home runs tonight, and the Guardians are up 7-3 in the bottom of the third.
The Guardians are up to five home runs in three innings. Better than one-third (five out of 14) Guardians at-bats have ended with home runs so far.
Petey Halpin, Travis Bazzana both hit home runs as Guardians jump on Joe Ryan, Twins
The ball is jumping out of Progressive Field tonight.
Petey Halpin drilled his first career home run to center field, a two run shot. Two batters later, Travis Bazzana hit a home run of his own, and the Guardians have put together three-run innings in both the first and second to take a 6-2 lead.
Guardians, Twins score
The Twins got two of those runs back in the second thanks to a defensive miscue by Chase DeLauter in right field.
With a runner on, Brooks Lee lined a ball into right field. It dropped just in front of DeLauter, who was caught between diving for it and laying up to field it. Instead, the ball caromed toward the wall, and it went as an RBI triple for Lee. Alan Roden followed with a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-2 Guardians lead.
Brayan Rocchio, Rhys Hoskins hit back-to-back home runs
The Guardians have opened this series with a bang — well, bangs.
In the top of the first inning, facing Twins starter Joe Ryan, Brayan Rocchio launched a two-run home run to right field to put the Guardians up 2-0. Rhys Hoskins followed a few pitches later with a solo shot to the Home Run Porch in left field.
The back-to-back homers have given Tanner Bibee a 3-0 lead.
