Fox19 welcomes meteorologist previously on 'Good Morning America'

Cincinnati’s Fox19 (WXIX-TV)  announced a new meteorologist to replace long-time Chief Meteorologist Steve Horstmeyer.

Stephanie Roberts, a Chicago native with experience on “Good Morning America,” will serve as the station’s new chief meteorologist on weeknights from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Fox19 wrote on Facebook Nov. 24.

The announcement comes three months after Horstmeyer retired from the station after a 48-year career in the Cincinnati region. He was the city’s longest-tenured TV meteorologist, according to a 2014 article from The Enquirer.

“Covering the severe to the outright sunny, Stephanie brings her experience of forecasting in Minnesota, Toledo, Cleveland, and Tampa to Cincinnati’s First Alert Weather Team,” Fox19 wrote.

Although Roberts grew up in Chicago, she has family in the Cincinnati area. She spent her childhood visiting her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins in Cincinnati, according to her Fox19 bio.

After graduating from Penn State, Roberts spent the first half of her career forecasting weather in the Midwest before moving south to forecast tropical weather in Tampa, her bio reads. She spent two years filling in on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Roberts is also married and has five “active” young adults, including a daughter and four sons, three of whom are Division I athletes.

“You will find her trying all of the locally owned restaurants,” her bio adds, “and exploring the many Tri-state parks with the family dogs.”
