Retirement for the former Twinsburg schools superintendent ended after less than two months.
The Diocese of Cleveland’s Office of Catholic Education recently appointed Kathryn Powers as the next principal of Holy Name High School in Parma Heights. The high school is a co-educational school for students in ninth through 12th grades. More than 650 students are enrolled.
Powers had abruptly announced her retirement earlier this summer, effective July 1, citing personal reasons. She had been superintendent for 14 years in the Twinsburg district, which educates 4,000 students.
“Holy Name High School’s commitment to academic excellence and Catholic values deeply resonates with me,” Powers stated in a media release. “As principal, I commit to bringing a steady, faith-aligned leadership presence and a collaborative spirit that supports teachers, inspires students and strengthens the school community.”
Powers has more than 30 years of experience in Catholic and public schools, serving as a teacher, principal, director of instruction, human resources officer and superintendent, according to Holy Name High School officials.
Associate Superintendent for Secondary Schools Michael Zelenka stated in a media release that the Diocese of Cleveland’s Office of Catholic Education believes that Powers “possesses the skills and passion to effectively lead Holy Name High School.”
“Mrs. Powers authentically lives her deep Catholic faith through relationship building, pursuing excellence in all things, and immersing herself in the life of the school community,” Zelenka said. “Her vast experience in schools provides wisdom and experience in working with students, families, faculty, staff and community members and developing programs and systems to ensure students’ success.”
Holy Name High School’s President Shelbrey Blanc stated in a media release she was eager to partner with Powers.
“We welcome Mrs. Powers and I look forward to working alongside her to advance the great mission of Holy Name – leading young adults to Christ by educating them in mind, body and spirit,” Blanc said.
