There’s sure a lot to like about Elly De La Cruz, but his skills are being misused. Despite the occasional dazzling play at shortstop, he’s still leading Major League Baseball in errors (9), again. In 2024, he led the league with 29 errors, according to MLB.com. Switching to centerfield could bring him Gold Gloves instead of criticism from anyone being objective. An occasional push bunt toward the second baseman against left-handers would be a valuable tool if he chose to perfect it, but his feeble efforts last year to bunt show his heart isn’t in it, which would be necessary for any of this to work.
