The Browns franchise is known for its long history of having uber-talented running backs. From Jim Browns to Ernie Davis, who didn’t achieve remotely what he was capable of due to his health. Beyond them, there were also Eric Metcalf, Peyton Hillis, and ultimately Nick Chubb.
The latter of that group made a lasting impact on the franchise, and he is now ready to step away from the game.
On Friday night, former Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb announced on social media that he was retiring from the NFL. He played eight seasons in the league, with seven of them coming with the Browns.
His statement on social media reads, “Today’s the day I’ve been avoiding for a while. Twelve year old me could never imagine this day, and 30 year old me is wondering where all the time has gone. I’ve known for some time now, but I’m finally ready to share that I’m done playing football.”
He ended it with a proud commitment to the franchise that drafted him.
“Till the day I die, it will always be: GO DAWGS. GO BROWNS!!!”
Coming out of Georgia, where he suffered a devastating knee injury, he was drafted 35th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. He was a part of a franchise-altering class that included quarterback Baker Mayfield and cornerback Denzel Ward. That trio of picks ultimately led the Browns to the playoffs and their first playoff win in 2020 after a 25-year drought.
Chubb is third all-time in rushing yards in Browns franchise history with 6,843 yards and third all-time in rushing touchdowns (51).
