BYESVILLE − Top-seeded Meadowbrook continued to show it is locked and loaded as it continues an impressive start to the OHSAA postseason with another sweep.
This time it was a 3-0 sweep over No. 11 seed Morgan by scores of 25-11, 25-11, 25-13 in a Division IV district semifinal on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

Colts focused on new mindset with specific goal in mind
Meadowbrook has complied an impressive streak of OHSSA postseason success, as the Colts are seeking to advance to their 6th consecutive regional tournament.
But this season, senior Nora Smithberger explained the Colts are focused in on a bigger goal…bringing a state volleyball championship back to Byesville.
“We definitely have a new mindset this year that a state championship is possible,” Smithberger said. “Our goal isn’t just a Final 4 anymore, we know we can get to the state championship if we stay focused and work for it. So we are all in on that goal of bringing back a state title to Byesville.”
Smithberger explained that the switch in mindset came as a result of some exposure to state championship caliber competition during their extensive summer program.
“This year we changed our mindset, because this summer was a big turning point for us,” Smithberger continued. “We played teams who have been state champions…several they were back-to-back champions and were able to compete with them. I think that sort of showed us, why not us. So that’s where are mindset is…a state championship.”
Freshman Addie Schultice led the Colts during Tuesday’s win with 12 points, 7 kills, 4 digs with Lyla Thompson chipping in with 10 points, 9 kills, 2 digs and Smithberger finishing with 7 points and 6 kills. Presleigh Valentine added 6 points, 5 kills and 3 digs for the Colts.

GIRLS SOCCER
Dover 2, John Glenn 1: The top seeded Muskies were seeking a bit of redemption as they hosted No. 3 seed Dover in a Division III girls soccer district semifinal on Monday, Oct. 20.
In a regular season matchup, the Tornadoes had taken a slim 2-1 win over the Muskies, and JG head coach Clay Wilkins felt confident entering the contest.
“We felt like we had a good shot tonight,” Wilkins said. “We have been playing well, but unfortunately just like our other game with Dover … it came down to us making some key mental mistakes. And that ended up being the difference again tonight.”
Young Muskies’ squad learns plenty of lessons
“It’s disappointing for sure, we were hoping to make a deeper run,” Wilkins added. “But as a really young group, we played a lot of freshmen as we only had four seniors with just two of them seeing a lot of playing time due to injuries. So we had a pretty good year, won an MVL title and got plenty of valuable experience we can use next year.”
John Glenn seniors whose soccer careers ended included Estelle Matheney, Faith Lemon, Kira Kaiser, and Seneca Stratton.
“Our seniors will leave some big shoes to fill next year like Estelle did a lot of things in the midfield area for us,” Wilkins said. “And Faith has been our goal keeper for the last four years, so we will miss them all next year.”
Tornadoes make early lead stand up to advance
Dover (10-7-2) opened the scoring with Bridget McCrate scoring with 24:58 left in the first half for a 1-0 lead that stood up to the halftime break.
