There is no comparison
Even though Philip Derrow tries to wear the guise of objectivity, his columns are filled with partisan rhetoric. A case in point is his column from Jan. 4, “Trump and Ginther could learn a lot from a dying ex-lawmaker.”
Derrow’s column echoes President Donald Trump’s statement after the terrible events of Charlottesville: “There are very fine people on both sides.” There is no comparison between Trump’s hateful divisive rhetoric, and Mayor Ginther, period.
Derrow’s columns are filled with sweeping comparisons, on a regular basis, with no effort on his part to cite facts.
Two glaring examples in this column: In Derrow’s choice of Trump over Harris in 2024, “While I stand by that binary choice because policy trumps personality…” What Trump “policies” does Philip Derrow support? In campaigning for president in 2024, Kamala Harris regularly and clearly delineated, in detail, multiple policies on the economy, fair housing, health care and many more.
And later in his column, Derrow makes the unsubstantiated statement: “While presidents Obama and Biden were dividers-in-chief in their own wrongheaded ways…”. In what ways were they dividers-in-chief?
You divide even more in making statements without facts, Mr. Derrow.

Despicable him and the minions
The United States of America, as well as the world, has been under the purview of an autocratic wannabe of hatred, vengeance, graft, corruption, lies and incompetence since Inauguration Day 2025. So much destruction has been accomplished in such a short time, both in the United States and around the world, promulgated by one despicable individual and his lacky minions.
Laws, rules, regulations, decorum, treaties and decades-long allies are pushed aside like cards on a table. Actions have been taken to enrich the few at the expense of everyone else. This leader and his family have been enriching themselves from the most powerful position in the world.
Now we have our own Putin. He’s taking Venezuela and looking seriously at Greenland. If he wants something, to hell with diplomacy, treaties and arrangements. He just takes it for self-defense or extortion, striking boats he claims hold illegal drug runners. (No proof was ever given. Come and get me).
I feel sorry for the Ukrainian people the U.S. once promised to help; now it’s, “Good luck on your own.” I wouldn’t befriend this conman on a bet. He’ll turn on anyone for a buck or praise.
With a lapdog Congress and a partner-in-crime Supreme Court, the only way this ends is in disaster. It will take decades to clean up the mess, if ever.
So, America, get to the voting booth before that doesn’t matter either. Happy 250.
