Delaware's Landon Green is Dispatch regular-season baseball player of year

The high school baseball season has reached the state tournament, with five central Ohio teams in the field.

Fourteen area players were featured in a poll to determine the central Ohio regular-season baseball player of the year. All the votes are in, and the winner is Delaware Hayes senior Landon Green.

A Clark State commit, Green was the ace of the Pacers’ pitching staff, helping to lead the team to the OCC-Capital championship – the first OCC title in program history – and a program-record 21 wins.

Green went 8-0 with six complete games and one save. He had a 0.55 ERA with 62 strikeouts and 10 walks in 50⅔ innings. He also finished with a program-record 216 career strikeouts.

Green also saw time at third base and designated hitter. He batted .407 with five home runs, 27 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

“I’ve never seen a more impactful season from a player,” coach Dave Meikrantz said. “To impact the game offensively and defensively at that level is absolutely incredible. Clark State hit the jackpot with Landon. As a program, we’ll miss his performance, obviously, but his ability to make everyone laugh and bring teammates together will be missed equally.”

Green finished with 33.32% of the vote, ahead of Dublin Coffman senior catcher Drew Walti (24.66%).

They were followed by Jonathan Alder’s Corey Taylor (12.83%), Newark Catholic’s Owen Przymierski, (9.09%), Hilliard Bradley’s Keaton Bowers (6.23%), Olentangy’s Rocco Bucci (4.88%), Licking Valley’s Brody Rodgers (2.69%), Olentangy Orange’s Colby Luling (2.2%), New Albany’s Bryson Gittins (1.12%), Orange’s Reid Hemrick (1.05%), West Jefferson’s Blake Bogenrife (0.64%), Watterson’s Ben Uhlenhake (0.56%), Granville’s Wilson Wells (0.46%) and Olentangy Liberty’s Parker Van Engelenhoven (0.27%).
