Unearth a Story with Bookworm Summer Reading
As a child of the 80’s, Indiana Jones and Laura Croft heavily influenced my idea of Archeologists. I focused on the adventuring and treasure-hunting part. The science and ancient history elements, not so much.
What could be more exciting than trekking through miles of dense jungle? I imagined exploring desert ruins by torchlight. Following a mysterious map in hopes of finding valuable artifacts. However, I could do without the giant spiders. There always seemed to be giant spiders.
My desire to explore began young. The woods around my friend’s house, the alleys of Kingston, and my Grandma’s backyard were as far as I could go. Until I found how effortlessly I could travel with the right story. That changed everything.
This summer, the Chillicothe and Ross County Public Library invites you to Unearth a Story of your own! Our Bookworm Summer Reading Program encourages readers of all ages to set daily reading goals, complete activities from our list, and earn treasure! Preregistration began May 18, but tracking starts June 1.
Your expedition begins at the Kickoff Party! from 5 to 6:30 p.m. June 3. Discover snow cones, face painting, and more. Adults, venture to the Main Library from 6:30 to 8 p.m. June 5 for the Throwback Book Fair. Journey back in time to your elementary school days with themed crafts, trivia, and plenty of swag. Come dressed in the style of your favorite book fair decade for some extra fun.
That’s just the beginning! Pick up our quarterly catalog or visit CRCPL.org/events to get the dirt on all upcoming summer fun. From a free pool day to a movie night, we have something for every age! There may be a giant spider when the BUGMAN visits the Richmond Dale Branch on June 8. But I hear it’s very well behaved.
So, sign up – online at CRCPL.org/bookworm or in person – and set your reading goal. Then get busy uncovering where your reading picks will take you. Need recommendations? We’re happy to help! No matter what you read, or in what format, it’s sure to be an adventure!
