CLEVELAND — Donovan Mitchell is remaining in Cleveland for the long haul.
The Cavaliers and Mitchell have agreed to a four-year, $273 million contract extension that include a player option for the 2030-31 season, according to an ESPN report. The deal, not yet confirmed by the team, also includes a full no-trade clause.
The extension offers stability for the Cavs, who now know their star guard is locked up through at least the summer of 2030. Mitchell technically could have signed an even larger contract extension next offseason but instead opted to secure his future with the Cavs now.
Mitchell, a seven-time All-Star and three-time All-NBA player, is on the heels of leading the Cavaliers to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2018 and the first time without LeBron James on the roster since 1992. He was adamant after the Game 4 loss to the New York Knicks that he loved being in Cleveland and wanted to remain there. Now, he’s proved it by signing a max extension on the first day of eligibility.

Mitchell became eligible this summer to sign a four-year extension valued at $273 million. He had two years left on his previous deal, with the second year being a player option, which effectively made the upcoming 2026-27 season the final year of team control.

This past season, Mitchell was named to the All-NBA Second Team after averaging 27.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.7 assists while shooting 48.3 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from 3-point range. He finished seventh in MVP voting, the second consecutive year he was top-seven in votes and the third time in his four seasons with the Cavs.
In this year’s playoffs, Mitchell averaged 26 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists on 45.1 percent shooting from the floor.
