Working on potentially his best start of the month, Cincinnati Reds’ left-hander Nick Lodolo’s night was cut short against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday, June 23.
Lodolo did not allow a hit and faced the minimum through three innings before he was struck by a hard-hit infield single by Milwaukee outfielder Jackson Chourio to begin the fourth inning.
Lodolo was looked at by the Reds’ medical staff on the mound, threw a few warmup pitches and stayed in the game. The Brewers eventually loaded the bases with just one out, but Lodolo struck out Jake Bauers looking and got Gary Sánchez to fly out to keep the game scoreless.
Lodolo did not come back out for the fifth inning as right-hander Julian Garcia came on from the bullpen for his Major League debut. The Reds announced that Lodolo exited the game with a left wrist contusion.
Lodolo entered the night with a 7.80 ERA over three June starts and was coming off a rough outing against the Mets June 17 where he allowed a season-high seven runs on 11 hits.
