Check out the latest Marion Star Athlete of the Week Polls

With the calendar turning to May, the Marion-area high school spring sports season is shaking itself out with league races being decided and tournaments looming.

Because of it, the schedule is starting to lighten as teams gear up for a final push.

Nevertheless, there were plenty of performances worthy of acknowledgement from the previous week that ended May 3.

Fans can vote as often as allowed for their favorite boys and girls nominees in the latest Marion Star Athlete of the Week polls, which are found at MarionStar.com and its app. The polls will remain open through early Sunday, May 10.

Here are the nominees:

Marion Star Boys Athlete of the Week for May 3

Ridgedale track’s 4×800-meter relay team of Brogan and Elliot Weston, Isaac Lust and Breyton Richmond set the fastest time in the state for 2026 in Division V by finishing second at the Marion Night Invitational in 8:02.49.

River Valley track’s Colt Craig won the pole vault at the Marion Night Invitational at 13 feet, 6 inches.

Elgin track’s Garret Lowry (151 feet, 2 inches), Drew Brown (146-8) and Carson Canterbury (123-7 3/4) set the discus record at the Elgin Relays with a 421-0 3/4, shattering the former mark of 408-7.

Cardington baseball’s Wyatt Denney hit a triple, double and single to score three runs in a win over Loudonville..

Highland baseball’s Jayden Collins hit a home run and two singles to end with three RBIs and two runs in a win over Clear Fork.

Pleasant baseball’s Alex Columber hit two singles and a double for three RBIs in a win over Marion Harding.

Marion Star Girls Athlete of the Week for May 3

River Valley track’s Madalynn Gwinner won the discus at 115 feet, 3 inches at the Marion Night Invitational.

Marion Harding track’s Niyemah Dixon-Melton was the runner-up in the shot put at 30 feet, 11 1/4 inches at the Marion Night Invitational.

Northmor softball’s Madi See hit two doubles and a triple for three runs and four RBIs in a win over East Knox.

North Union softball’s Emma McElroy hit a triple and single for three RBIs in a win over Jonathan Alder.

Elgin softball’s Hayleigh Lowther hit a home run and double for three RBIs and two runs in a loss to Hardin Northern.

Pleasant softball’s Faith Staley struck out 17 batters and walked four during a four-hitter, plus hit a home run and single in a win over Marion Harding.

Last week’s winners

Ridgedale baseball’s Brody Mawer hit a home run, double and single for three RBIs in a win over Cory-Rawson and won the boys poll with 659 of 2.015 votes for 33%.

Other nominees were North Union baseball’s Greyson Bledsoe, Cardington baseball’s Fisher Schuman, Elgin baseball’s Colton Ware, Highland baseball’s Caleb Youngman, Marion Harding tennis player Sebastian Lisiecki and Northmor baseball’s Trevor Brubaker.

Ridgedale softball’s Hannah Murphy hit a double and two singles for two runs and two RBIs in a win over North Baltimore and won the girls poll with 605 of 1,976 votes for 31%.

Other nominees were softball players Hazlee Hall of North Union, Kylie Eastep of River Valley, Myleigh Bishop of Cardington, Macey Harper of Marion Harding, Madison Hill of Elgin, Carly Davis of Pleasant and Maleah Blevins of Northmor.
