City Engineer Chris Barnes said the bridge, which sits between Warner Road and Main Court SE, had to be closed because portions of the deck have deteriorated and are crumbling on both sides. The bridge spans the east branch of Nimishillen Creek.

“This crumbling has accelerated since we had a patch and steel plate installed several weeks ago,” he said.

Detour using Hartford Avenue SE, Tuscarawas Street E, Warner Road SE, Madison Court SE and 11th Street SE.

Canton plans to replace the bridge starting in April 2026. The proposed project includes full-depth deck slab replacement, some structural steel replacements and repairing and painting the ends of the beams.
