Spooky season is here!

As the temperatures grow colder and the trees don their autumn hues, it’s time to for blood-curdling screams and things that go bump in the night.

Looking for some frightful fun for the weeks leading up to Halloween? Here’s a list of haunted houses in the Greater Akron region, along with some tamer options for the little ones (or those who are faint of heart):

Northeast Ohio haunted houses

Bloodview Haunted House: Through Nov. 1 at 1010 Towpath Road, Broadview Heights. Admission: $20, $30 for all night, $40 for all night with fast pass. bloodview.org.  

Carnival of Horrors: Oct. 3-Nov. 1 at Stark County Fairgrounds, 305 Wertz Ave. NW, Canton. Admission: $30. carnivalofhorrors.com.    

Factory of Terror: Through Nov. 8 at 4125 Mahoning Road NW, Canton. fotohio.com.

Trick-or-Treat Trail, ghost walks, crafts and outdoor fun

Trick-or-Treat Trail: 2 p.m. Oct. 18 at Central Park, 1795 Steese Road, Green. Trick-or-Treat Trail and Costume Contest brings the Halloween fun and festivities to Central Park. Take a walk around the park and collect candy and goodies from Green businesses and organizations. Enter the costume contest to win prizes and show off your creativity. https://cityofgreen.org/calendar.aspx.

Ghostly Lore Surrounding Medina’s Most Haunted Places: 1 p.m. Oct. 4 at Root Candles Bee Culture Conference Room, 640 W. Liberty St., Medina. Local residents will share tales of ghostly encounters. Attendees can share their own unexplained experiences. Free. 330-722-1341. 

Medina Ghost & Gobblin’ Walk: 5:30 p.m. Oct. 16. Take a guided tour of Medina’s historic district and learn about local legends as groups travel around town and stop at four restaurants: Sully’s Irish Pub, Cool Beans, 17 Public Square and Monarca Cantina. General admission tickets, $60, include a guided tour and small plates from four restaurants. Scarecrow Building Workshop: 2-3:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at Liberty Park/Nature Center, 9999 Liberty Road, Twinsburg. Bring your creativity and build a scarecrow to take home! A frame, bag for the head, markers, twine and straw will be provided. The clothes and creativity are up to you. Use t-shaped frames measuring approximately 75 inches tall and 40 inches wide. Spooky “Tails” Around the Campfire: 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 11 at F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm/Nature Realm, 1828 Smith Road, Akron. Go on a ghostly tour through Akron’s haunted past and learn about local spirits whose stories linger, as well as fun facts about several captivating critters commonly associated with the supernatural. Ghost Walk in Downtown Warren: Oct. 17-18 and Oct. 24-25 starting at First Presbyterian Church, 256 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren. Tours run every 15 minutes from 6:30-9 p.m. Featuring a collection of true tales drawn from Warren’s rich past, each guided tour brings the stories to life through costumed actors and atmospheric stops at some of the city’s most historic landmarks. https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/ghost-walk–2025

Truck-or-Treat: 5-7 p.m. Oct. 18 at Silver Creek Metro Park/Lake House Area, 5000 Hametown Road, Norton. At this FREE event, presented by Wayside Furniture, visitors of all ages can explore the trucks and vehicles that help keep our parks beautiful while collecting treats from SMP staff. Costumes are encouraged for all ages!This event is supported by Acme Fresh Market, Cleveland Clinic Akron General and Cleveland Clinic Children’s. For more information, call 330-865-8065.  

Spooky Stories & Species: 6-7 p.m. Oct. 24 at F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm/Visitors Center, 1828 Smith Road, Akron. Spooky stories and species make their way around this time of year! Let’s learn about these so-called spooky species and how they’re represented in literature. For more information, call 330-865-8065. 

Halloween in the Park: 2-4:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at Copley Community Park, 3232 Copley Road. The Trick-or-Treat Trail is a safe setting for children to get goodies from area businesses. Refreshments, games, crafts and activities. Copley police and firefighters will display cruisers and firetrucks. Children will receive a trick-or-treat bag, glow stick, candy, prizes and small pumpkin while supplies last. Free. copley.oh.us/372/Halloween-in-the-Park.

Howl-O-Ween at the Moon: 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at Deep Lock Quarry Metro Park/Quarry Trail, 5779 Riverview Road, Peninsula. Join a naturalist at dusk to discover some of the park’s most elusive and misunderstood residents: coyotes. After a short presentation, take a quiet stroll along the trail to call for these creatures in hopes they will respond. For more information, call 330-865-8065. 

Boo at the Zoo

Boo at the Akron Zoo: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 11-12, Oct. 18-19, Oct. 25-26 at the Akron Zoo, 505 Euclid Ave. The zoo will be decorated in different themed areas, such as Halloween Town, Witch’s Lair and Autumn Adventure. There will be different fall fest activities, like potato toss, pumpkin bowling, character meet and greets and a monster show. The trick-or-treating tradition continues in the Enchanted Candy Trail. A special Oktoberfest area will be available for adults, 21 and older. Advance tickets are $16-$20 for trick-or-treaters, free for member observers and $13-$17 for nonmember observers. Tickets are available at http://akronzoo.org/boo-at-the-zoo.  

Zoothing Boo at the Zoo: 10 a.m. Oct. 25 at the Akron Zoo, 505 Euclid Ave., Akron. During this special time, guests with different abilities will be able to trick-or-treat and enjoy the activities without loud noises and crowds before the zoo opens for Boo at the Zoo general admission. Tickets are separate from general admission, and a limited number are available to help control crowd sizes. Zoothing Boo tickets are available at akronzoo.org/zoothing-boo-at-the-zoo.
