The Cincinnati Bengals, spearheaded by Joe Burrow, will change up the offense some in 2026.
As always in Cincinnati, that means discussion about going under center more and adding more play-action to the mix.
Burrow has said as much recently, noting the need to keep adapting to stay ahead of always-changing defenses.
He’s not the only quarterback talking about it, either.
Bengals backup Joe Flacco also talked about the change and sounds happy about the whole thing.
“There’s a reason that has always been a part of the game,” Flacco told Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic. “Obviously, the game evolves, but there is still base parts of the game that matter. On first and second down, if you can be a physical team and then play off of that physicality, it is going to help you get easy plays. The explosive plays are coming not because you are fighting an uphill battle all game but because you are finding ways to get easy chunks.”
Flacco probably helped nudge things more in this direction thanks to his efforts last year. There, after coming over via trade, he worked under center plenty and had the offense looking explosive and competitive.
Call it proof of concept. And Flacco isn’t done helping the Bengals, considering he re-signed probably earlier than most would have guessed, locking him in for 2026, should the team need him out there.
