Our pick in Michigan's 10th Congressional District Democratic primary

The race to replace departing U.S. Rep. John James has attracted a robust field of Democratic candidates eager to flip one of the nation’s most competitive congressional districts from red to blue.

Michigan’s 10th Congressional District, spanning much of Macomb County and portions of Oakland County, will play an important role in determining the balance of power in Washington.

Two of the district’s most important economic sectors are defense and manufacturing, both of which are being affected by evolving trade and tariff policies that have significant implications for the Detroit area’s automotive supplier industry.

Three Democrats are competing in the primary: Eric Chung, Tim Greimel and Christina Hines.

Eric Chung has presented himself as a thoughtful next-generation leader. An attorney with experience in economic and technology policy who served in the Commerce Department implementing the CHIPs and Science Act, Chung has offered an optimistic vision focused on innovation.

Tim Greimel has a solid record of public service. As the former mayor of Pontiac and a former Democratic leader in the Michigan House, he brings governing experience and an understanding of state and local policy. His candidacy offers voters a seasoned public servant with a proven record of leadership.

With lifelong roots in the district, Christina Hines has built a campaign focused on public safety, economic opportunity and pragmatic problem-solving. A former Washtenaw County prosecutor who worked on sexual assault cases and preventing exploitation, Hines has brought experience and passion to her campaign. Hines has demonstrated an ability to connect with voters across the district and has assembled a coalition that extends beyond traditional Democratic constituencies. Her campaign has emphasized both competence and results.

All three candidates bring unique experiences to this primary race in a district that will be one of the most highly watched in the country. Christina Hines stands out as the Democrat best positioned to compete in November and receives our endorsement.
