BalletMet to revisit 'Nutcracker,' stage new works in 2026-27 season

BalletMet will unite the past, present and future during its 2026-27 season with a lineup that reprises iconic classics, showcases contemporary works and introduces new voices.

Several premieres will highlight the season, along with the return of a holiday favorite and a reimagined Tchaikovsky masterpiece choreographed by BalletMet artistic director Remi Wörtmeyer.

The season is also marked by collaborations with Columbus arts organizations and ballet companies from across the U.S.

Three artists chosen via a competitive international search will share the spotlight at the season opener. “Future Icons: A BalletMet Choreographic Project” is designed to help fledgling choreographers create timely, thought-provoking new ballets.

The resulting works will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 10-12, and 2 p.m. Sept. 12 in the BalletMet Performance Space, 322 Mount Vernon Ave.

“Marilyn” will bring the Golden Age of Hollywood to the stage in a joint production with Tulsa Ballet and Oregon Ballet Theatre. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16-17 and Oct. 22-24, and 2 p.m. Oct. 18 in the Davidson Theatre, Riffe Center, 77 S. High St.

BalletMet’s treasured “The Nutcracker” will deliver holiday magic to the Ohio Theatre, 39 E. State St., for a 22-show run from Dec. 10-27 that includes two “My First Nutcracker” shows for kids.

The season will continue in the new year with these shows:

Season subscriptions go on sale May 1. Tickets for “The Nutcracker” go on sale July 1, with a 50% discount through July 31. All other shows go on sale Aug. 1.
