Are Bengals 'keeping it together' again with strong finish to season?

The idea the Cincinnati Bengals won’t make any major changes this offseason keeps gaining steam.

Exiting the 37-14 thumping of the Arizona Cardinals in Week 17, all vibes and signs keep pointing that direction when it comes to Zac Taylor, his coaching staff and perhaps even a big chunk of the roster.

A recent writeup from Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com suggests last Sunday was a look-ahead to what the Bengals hope to do in Week 1 next season, topped off with this:

“And keeping it together: Head coach Zac Taylor’s player-centric approach in a locker room that knows how to laugh and when to not with a core that’s been to the Super Bowl looking to show the kids how to get back.”

Granted, vibes are great right now. The Bengals have ripped off two straight wins. They’re 3-2 since Burrow’s return in late November and trouncing the Cardinals in one of the most lopsided games of the entire season has offered a glimpse of what could’ve been if Joe Burrow hadn’t gotten hurt.

Fans concerned, though? Hard to blame them. The Bengals have a reputation from deep into the early days of Marvin Lewis when it comes to going on nice season-ending runs when playoffs are impossible. They roll that so-called momentum into next year, only to struggle again.

Granted, those teams didn’t have Joe Burrow. Bearing up on the 3-13 Cardinals, though, isn’t necessarily the best cause for running it back without some major changes in key areas along the defense and perhaps how they go about acquiring talent, either.

It will be interesting to see how the narrative shifts after the season finale against Cleveland in Week 18, if at all.
