Saturday’s girls basketball: Juniors lead Ellet to sectional crown; Cornute scores 1,000-point in Irish win
Friday’s boys bowling: Coventry advances to OHSAA Division II boys bowling state tournament
The Coventry boys bowling team will be in action at 10:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, in the Division II state tournament at H.P. Lanes in Columbus.
Comets set to appear in the state tournament are senior Aidan Jensen, junior Wade Allen, junior Deven Legg, freshman Owen Eder, sophomore Austin Rose, freshman Riley Butler and junior Jaxen Anderson.
Coached by Aaron Rose, Coventry advanced to the state tournament by winning a district team championship Feb. 20 with a score of 4,212 at Rebman Lanes in Lorain. Fairport Harding (4,136), Champion (4,101) and Mentor Lake Catholic (4,093) finished behind Coventry and also advanced to the state tournament.
Allen won the individual district championship with a three-game series of 738 (265-258-215), the second-highest district pin total for any bowler at the state tournament. Jensen finished seventh in the district tournament with a three-game series of 652 (213-201-238).

Tuesday’s girls basketball: Kasey Bolyard leads Mogadore to OHSAA tournament win; Ashli Pearson, Charlotte guide Hudson to regular season win
Monday’s boys basketball: John Johnson, Arri Caporaletti, Hoban stay red-hot with postseason on horizon
Brady Lucey added 14 points, and Nico Caporaletti (two points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) notched a double-double the hard way for Hoban. Nordonia (11-10) had solid nights from Jason Janosek (22 points, four assists), Hudson Funk (14 points) and Landen Ellis (10 points). Max Poulin had a game-high 13 rebounds for Nordonia.
