With extremely unhealthy air in Columbus, many high school sporting events and practices are being canceled or moved indoors.
According to IQAir, which measures the U.S. Air Quality Index, Canadian wildfires have put Columbus’ air quality in the “hazardous” range on July 17. In fact, Columbus had an AQI of 476, over 150 points past the threshold of “hazardous.” At that level, the air quality is likely to affect everyone, not just members of sensitive groups.
The AQI in Columbus on July 16 was at 129, which made the air unhealthy for sensitive groups, such as people with heart or lung disease, older adults, children and teens.
