Three people were taken to area hospitals June 17 following a five-vehicle crash at State Route 43 and Howe Road in Brimfield Township.
Sgt. Shaun Baskerville of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Ravenna Post, said June 18 that the crash occurred when a 2009 Toyota Scion traveling southbound on SR 43 went through a red light and struck a 2014 Toyota Sienna traveling eastbound on Howe about 3:35 p.m.
Baskerville said that after hitting the Sienna, the Scion spun around and struck a 2022 Honda HR-V and a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze. At some point, a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox was also hit.
EMS took the Scion and Sienna drivers, a 35-year-old man and a 76-year-old man, respectively, to Summa Akron City Hospital with reported serious injuries. Additional information was unavailable.
EMS took the Cruze driver, a 40-year-old woman, to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center with reported minor injuries. Baskerville he was unaware of any other injuries.
Baskerville said the Scion driver is considered at fault in the crash, but he had not yet been charged or cited.
“We believe alcohol was a factor,” he said.
Baskerville said the intersection was at least partially reopened to traffic after about 45 minutes. Brimfield police sent out an alert that the highway patrol was still clearing the scene at around 5:20 p.m.
