Multiple people were injured after a school bus in Madison was struck from behind by a pick-up truck, according to a statement from New York State Police.
State Police said a call came in at about 7:20 a.m. May 7 for a two-vehicle personal injury crash on Route 20 in Madison County.
Police said a 2007 Dodge Ram pick-up, driven by Joshua Smith Sr., 35, of Eaton, struck the Madison Central School District bus that was stopped on Route 20.
The operator of the truck became trapped in the vehicle and was extricated by emergency responders before being transported to Wynn Hospital in Utica for treatment of minor injuries.
Two children from the truck were also transported for evaluation.
The bus was operated by Savannah Bridge, 29, of Madison. The driver and two children aboard the bus were transported to Hamilton Hospital with minor injuries.
The investigation revealed the school bus had activated its warning lights and stopped prior to the collision.
Smith was issued numerous traffic tickets. The investigating trooper determined Smith was following too closely and was distracted while operating the vehicle.
