Richard Townsend Jr., 53, of Magnolia and Jennifer Byers, 48, of Navarre were traveling northbound on a 2013 Harley Davidson at 11:57 p.m. when they struck a southbound 2021 Subaru Forester driven by Merle Pearson, 89, of Waynesburg, the patrol said. Townsend was operating the motorcycle and Byers was a passenger.

Townsend and Byers weren’t wearing helmets at the time of the crash, the patrol said. They were pronounced dead at the scene by the Stark County coroner.

The Subaru driver wasn’t injured, the patrol said.

The crash remains under investigation. The Ohio Department of Transportation, Mohawk Valley Fire and EMS, and Spencer’s Towing assisted at the scene.
