18-year-old pleads in 2 shootings, including one that killed teen

A defendant who was 16 years old when he was involved in a shooting that killed one teen and wounded another has been sentenced to 20 to 25½ years in prison.

Carl’leeyon Anderson pleaded guilty July 8 to involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault charges in the shooting, as well as a second one that also happened in 2023.

The fatal shooting happened on Sept. 28, 2023, outside a Bond Hill Sunoco station.

Anderson was in a vehicle and fired multiple shots at a half-dozen teens, who prosecutors said had stopped at the gas station store for drinks. Fifteen-year-old Ja’mir Thompkins was killed. A second teen was shot in the arm.

Anderson, now 18, pleaded guilty to the charges in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court. Judge Robert Goering imposed the 20- to 25½-year sentence, which had been agreed upon as part of the plea.

Anderson also pleaded guilty to felonious assault charges in an August 2023 shooting that left the victim paralyzed.

He was prosecuted as an adult for both shootings after initially being charged in juvenile court.

Anderson’s attorney, Clyde Bennett II, declined to comment.
