Officials ID 16-year-old killed in Over-the-Rhine shooting

Hamilton County’s coroner has identified the 16-year-old killed in an Over-the-Rhine shooting on the night of June 19.

Rasheed Mills was found shot in the 1300 block of Vine Street just after 9:30 p.m., officials said.

Mills was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he died due to his injuries.

Police have not released any details about what led to the shooting or information about possible suspects.

According to Cincinnati police data, the overall number of crimes reported in Over-the-Rhine is up 49% percent compared to last year. However, shootings in the neighborhood are down. Mills is the 10th person to be shot in the neighborhood so far this year, compared to 18 during the same period last year.

Citywide violent crime is down about 3% compared to last year and shootings are down about 20%.

The Cincinnati Police Department’s homicide unit is handling the investigation. Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call detectives at 513-352-3542.
