The next phase of a $35 million Johnson City Central School District capital project is scheduled to be completed before the first day of the 2026-27 school year.
On Aug. 27, 2024, Johnson City residents voted 266 to 86 for the Revitalize 2025 capital project to make repairs to the high school.
During phase 1 of the project, new fencing was installed at the baseball and softball fields, accessibility updates were made to the road and field, new turf was installed and drainage improved. Crews also removed the wooden floor in the weight room and swapped it out for a traditional padded floor.
Members of the Johnson City baseball and softball teams joined the capital project team, board members and community members to unveil the finished fields on March 24.

What’s next in Johnson City capital project plan
Phase 2A of the project will focus on the high school’s welcome center, lobby, auditorium and the main offices, which are currently under construction.
The plan is to complete construction by the first day of school on Sept. 10.

New windows and doors will be installed at the high school’s main office, and there will be upgrades to its HVAC system.

A new entrance facade is planned at Johnson City High School’s auditorium, along with new front panels and a reconstructed stage.
Final stages of project include pool renovations
The week of July 20, construction crews began demolition of the pool, which is expected to be completed by late 2027. The new pool space will get a complete overhaul, transforming it into a state-of-the-art facility with spectator seating.
The pool will have six lanes and there will be swim team benches and increased deck space.
As crews continue to work on the pool, the district does not anticipate any disruptions for students going into the 2026-27 school year.
The summer of 2027 brings Phase 2B, the final phase of the project, which will include upgrades to the restrooms and cafeteria.
